Cheesy Hot Dog Recipes
Safe and Delicious

Our simple trick avoids a choking hazard for this kid’s favorite

Our Cheesy Hot Dog Recipes have a safety secret. Good as they are, we all know that hot dogs pose a child’s choking hazard, and we don’t want that.

Use our simple trick, slice the dogs lengthwise into quarters, and let the cheese hold them together – much safer and easier to eat!

Kids and hot dogs – go together well. Hot Dogs come 100% beef, chicken, a mix, or vegetarian. There’s something for everyone.

Portions/Servings

This recipe will feed 25 kids, if you are you are serving other snacks, and/or appetizers, dinners, etc. Read about Party Food Quantities and how to plan for the right amounts.

Cheesy Dog Recipe Shopping List for 25 Kids:

___25-30 Hot Dogs – choose the kind(s)that you like. We always have some veggie dogs for kids and families who don’t enjoy meat.

___ Enough hot dog rolls – we still wonder why they package the quantities differently for rolls and dogs….

___1 – 16oz. packs of shredded cheese, milder flavor

___1 – 16oz pack of sliced American cheese

___ Ketchup and mustard

Procedure:

On the Day of the Party:

Shortly before guests arrive, boil of the pan of water big enough to hold all the hot dogs at one time.

Cover and a half pan or large cookie sheet with aluminum foil, spray a bit of vegetable release spray and set aside.

Get the cheese out of the fridge and let it warm up.

A few minutes before you’re ready to serve, drop the hot dogs into the boiling water. Hot dogs are fully cooked when you buy them so were warming them up. They’re done just after the water returns to a full boil.

While the dogs cook, spread the hot dog rolls on the aluminum foiled pan. Use the sliced American cheese, and lay one slice in each bun.

TIP: Now’s a good time to wear some food gloves, because they will help you manage the hot hot dogs – or, use a pair of tongs and a sharp knife. (If you put the sliced hot dogs back into the hot water, they will curl up and be really hard to fit into the buns.)

Remove the hot dogs from the heat but keep them in the water. One of the time, cut the dogs lengthwise into 4 quarters. Put 2 or 3 quarters into each bun. Sprinkle cheese in between each quarter and on top.

Work quickly to finish assembling the Cheesy Dogs. We always leave a couple without cheese for kids who don’t eat dairy.

Check out why we like this recipes for safety – compare the thickness of a uncut hot dog to the portioned Cheesy Dog.

Slide the whole lot into a 400° preheated oven for just three minutes, enough to melt the softened cheese.

SAFETY TIP: Be sure to let the dogs stand for several minutes before serving.

Presentation: Your Eyes Eat First

For very small kids, will cut the Cheesy Dogs into thirds. Otherwise, We’ll cut 50% of them in half and leave the rest whole – you decide based on the age of your guests.

Leftovers:

Wrap up any leftover Cheesy Dogs with film. They will freeze OK and can be warmed up in the microwave.
