PBJ Roll Recipe
that Kids Can Handle

Easy to make and eat – nearly Mess-Proof!

Our PBJ Roll Recipe give kids what they like and keeps the carpet cleaner in the cupboard. It’s easy and can be made days ahead time.

Why didn’t we think of this before! Here’s our spin on a stuffed sandwich that you’ll never forget.

If you don’t have a cake decorator kit, no problem. We’ll show you an easy way.

Portions/Servings

This recipe will feed 25 kids, if you are you are serving other snacks, and/or appetizers, dinners, etc. Read about Party Food Quantities and how to plan for the right amounts.

PBJ Roll Recipe Shopping List for 25 Kids:

___2 or 3 dozen plain dinner rolls. These are usually 3in. long and 2in. around, or so. You want a plain, fully cooked roll, with a slightly harder outside - not a sandwich roll.

___16 oz jar of peanut butter, smooth

___16 oz jar of jelly – we usually use strawberry or grape

___ A very basic cake decorators kit, which would include a round tip and a ”V”-shaped piping bag. Most grocery stores sell this as a kit, and some will sell the individual pieces. If you can’t find one,see below for another way

Procedure:

Before the Party:

Up to two days before the party, began by warming to the jars of peanut butter and jelly.

You can remove their lids and microwave them for a bit, or put the jars into hot water. We like microwave.

Once the peanut butter and jelly is soft and workable, combine them together in a bowl. Do this by hand, not with a machine, because you don’t want them to be completely mixed together, just combined.

TIP: If it’s still too stiff to combine after you’ve put it in the bowl, place the bowl over some hot water and allow the heat to continue the softening process.

Transfer the PBJ mix into a piping bag with a round tip. Careful - it might be hot!

Using a thin blade fruit knife, cut a small tube shape into each roll.

The hole should be 1/2” or so, all the way through.

Save the pieces of bread that you cut out.

Insert the tip of the piping bag about half way into each roll. Squeeze and some PBJ. Turn the roll around and insert into the other side, and squeeze in some more.

If the piping bag isn’t working for you, you can carefully push the PBJ mix into the ends of each roll.

Now take a bit of the bread you cut from each roll and stuff it in the open ends. (Those little bread plugs will solidify in a few hours.)

Place the stuffed rolls on a large plate or tray, cover tightly with film and refrigerate.

On the Day of the Party:

About an hour before you’re ready to serve, remove the PBJ Rolls from the refrigerator – don’t take the film off. Keep them covered until you actually serve them.

Presentation: Your Eyes Eat First

These are such a hit and so much fun for the kids to eat, that we’ve seen kids often take more, even though they’re still not done with the first one – so keep a watchful eye on your young guests.

Leftovers:

Rewrap any leftovers with film and place them in the fridge until ready to eat.
